Two for the Seesaw - Russian Theatre Screenings

Cyprus : Two for the Seesaw - Russian Theatre Screenings

The story of two solitudes, who suddenly met and instantly fell in love, to be honest, is old-fashioned. But the fact of the matter is that the audience which is tired of accusatory theater and cabaret format, wants to see something "about feelings." Even if these feelings are impossible today.

There are two people on the stage:charming coquette dancer Gitel and morose handsome attorney Jerry. Both ran away to New York from their problems. But if we can only guess about Gitel's problems but Jerry tells us about his.

Long and pathetic, savoring the details of a failed marriage, infidelity favorite his wife and his own addiction "to enjoy life alms." In today's reality, if she meets a man who complains so eloquently, it is unlikely that a romance will start between them. And under no circumstances he will not be crying into the phone to the mistress explaining how much she gave himin life. The heroine of Chulpan Khamatova looks much more convincing – as such small delicate women, who has to be strong, because no one else is strong near there. How good the character lies in the nature of a well-established image of the Chulpan -just as such persistent women she played dozens of times.

Yet today's 30-year-old loners did not disclose embrace to the first comer, do not believe every lover's word , they are not silent when criticized. And don't become as happy as children, when suddenly they are praised. It seems that the unsure feeling of the heroes(sleeping with one another on a first date, or not to sleep, to live together or wait, to marry or leave, admit or continue lying) will never end (performance lasts 3 hours). However, the final is predicted : the hero, warmed in the home and heart of Gitel, rushes back to his wife.

In the last scene Gitel-Hamatova sits alone in an empty dark room, hugging a telephone. It is just the umpteenth time she told Jerry "love", painfully smiles and says goodbye to him forever. Heartbreaking finale performance in the long run makes the old play more interesting and better.

Gitel-Hamatova here recalls the heroines of Giulietta Masina. Her anguish is visible and almost palpable. Another issue is that in this world, Juliettes like this are almost gone.
