Brahms From Cyprus to Berlin

Apollon International Connections will present a chamber music concert titled Brahms: From Cyprus to Berlin with violinist Wolfgang Schröder, pianist Maria Yavroumi and horn player Darius Mikulski at the Pallas Theatre, Nicosia on Monday, 7 March at 8pm. The concert will then be repeated in Berlin on March 10.

The all Brahms programme will begin with the wonderful Klavierstucke, Op 118 which are six individual movements which were composed and premiered separately but, for the sake of convenience, published together in 1893 under a single opus number.

This will be followed by the F.A.E. Sonata which was the result of Schumann’s idea of writing a collaborative composition with Dietrich and Brahms to celebrate the return of Joachim to Dusseldorf in 1853. It was so-named to reflect Joachim’s personal motto “Frei Aber Einsam” – Free but Lonely. Dietrich wrote the first movement, Schumann the second and fourth movements and Brahms the third. The concert will conclude with the Horn Trio in E flat Major, Op. 40.

Wolfgang Schroder, well known to the Cyprus public as soloist and Concertmaster of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra will be joined by pianist Maria Yavroumi and horn player Darius Mikulski. Since concluding her post-graduate studies in London in 2010, Maria has been performing as a soloist and chamber musician in Europe. They are joined by a return to the Cyprus platform by Dariusz Mikulski, an important and talented Polish musician who enjoys an international career as both conductor and soloist.
