Caterina Cornaro goes to the Opera
The Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia, on the occasion of the renewal of the “Caterina Cornaro Gallery”, is planning two events entitled “Caterina Cornaro goes to the Opera” on the 16th and 17th June 2015.
The main part of the program will consist of music events with arias from the “Die Königin von Zypern” opera, which was shown for the first time in 1841 in Munich, then followed, later in the same year, in Paris. The idea to stage events of this kind came from the rare music score of the Opera, which belongs to the Collections of the Museum and is exhibited at the renewed Cornaro Gallery. The Opera will be performed by professional musicians from Germany (soprano, tenor and pianist), who responded positively to the Museum’s invitation to study and perform arias from the specific music score of 1841, and indeed without pay.
The performances will be enhanced and enriched through a lecture of Dr. Angel Nikolaou-Konnari (University of Cyprus) focused on the specific Opera, a small exhibition pertaining to the Opera and special guided tours at the Cornaro Gallery.
