Dege Feder: The Voice of the Journey (performance) and artist talk with Diomedes Koufteros

Point Centre for Contemporary Art cordially invites you to an event, organised in cooperation with the Embassy of Israel in Cyprus, under the theme Cultural Geographies.

A performance with original Ethiopian music and dance. A musical journey that expresses the double identity, Ethiopian and Israeli, which Dege Feder, an established dancer, choreographer and musician, embodies since immigrating to Israel as a child in 1985. Before the performance Point will host a conversation between the artist and actor, theatre-maker, educator and cultural operator Diomedes Koufteros.

Dege Feder is an established dancer, choreographer and musician. She is the artistic director of the Beta Dance Troupe and is the founder of Lela, an Ethiopian fusion musical group dedicated to performing songs that she writes and performs. Born in Ethiopia, in an Ethiopian Jews majority village, she left her village to move to Israel. In 1998, she started studying in Haifa University, majoring in arts and education. During that time she danced in "Eskesta" Ethiopian dance troupe with which she traveled worldwide. She also sang in different music groups and recorded dance soundtracks with the Israeli composer Oded Zehavi. She teaches teaches Ethiopian dance and song workshops in order to bring the youth closer to their culture and make them proud of it.

Diomedes Koufteros (MFA Acting – Brandeis University, Massachusetts, USA) is an actor, theatre-maker, educator and cultural operator based in Nicosia, Cyprus. He is a part-time lecturer at the University of Nicosia’s Department of Music and Dance, where he has taught Mask Improvisation. In the past he has also taught at Brandeis University (USA), Satirikon Acting School (Cyprus) and as guest-lecturer at Boston University. As a producer and co-producer he has worked on numerous projects including Evelyn Evelyn, My Dying Body, and The Eye of Cassiopeia. In 2014 - 2015 Diomedes coordinated Songs of My Neighbours an EU-funded theatre project between Cyprus, Italy and Poland, which aimed at increasing dialogue and social justice.
