A Respectable Wedding
Award-winning theatre company Fresh Target Theatre Ensemble and director Paris Erotokritou will present for the first time in Cyprus Bertolt Brecht's “A Respectable Wedding”. The play was written in 1919 when Brecht was still a student and although it is an early work of the author, it encompasses the characteristic Brechtian elements which made him one of the most significant contemporary playwrights.
A satire of the values and institutions of the bourgeois society, the play takes place during a wedding dinner at the house of the young groom. Through this comic and ‘grotesque’ – at times- story, we witness the gradual transformation of the protagonists, as they abandon social conventions and political correctness, and let their wild side run free, disclosing 'guilty' secrets and dark desires.
A ten-member group of actors puts on a socially subversive show, filled with humour, risk taking and boldness as well as live music and singing, in an aesthetic exploration of the real and the imaginary.
