Cyprus : Open Air Gallery

The European Capital of Culture - Pafos2017 connects spaces and people, by placing some of its celebrations at the open parking space which was transformed last year by various artists. A community involvement programme with participating groups and organisations from Pafos. The Pafos2017 Organisation aims to strengthen and support the town’s commercial centre through actions and events such as this one.

The parking are of the Archiepiskou Makariou will be transformed into an Open Air Gallery, inviting families and adults to participate in story-telling and theatrical play, animation and art workshops, listen to music and dance to the rhythms of various groups.

Saturday
11:00-14:00 Children’s drawing workshop, under the guidance of instructors of the Cyprus Youth Board, inspired by stories and myths of Pafos.

12:00-14:00 Stories and theatrical play from the Youth Board of Cyprus with the actress Pavlina Flevotoma.

14:30-15:00 Georgian dances by the Dance Ensemble Romiosini of Agis and Nektarios Toursidis.

15:00 Percussion performance with the Latido Percussion Ensemble by the Centre of Music Education of Vicky Christodoulou

16:00 The Pafos Municipal Philharmonic under the conduct of Zack Evangelou begins a festive parade in front of the Town Hall to the Open Air Gallery. Choirs and musical ensembles from Pafos participate with popular carols and songs from around the world.

Various choirs will participate including the Musical Lyceum of Pafos, the Evagoras Pallikarides choir, Aspa Vasileiou Music Studio, the Paphos Zingers Rock Choir and the children’s choir “Camerton” by the Cyprus-Russian Association.

Sunday
11:00-15:00 During this workshop Charalambos Margaritis will reveal the secrets of animation making.

14:30-16:30 Story-telling and theatrical play by Neophyta Polydorou

16:00-17:30 Dancing in the Streets
Dancers fill the streets and the Open Air Gallery. Participating: House of Dance, School of Rhythmic Gymnastics Despo Iacovou and Gymnastika Zumba Kids.

During the two day festivities the Peri Poleos legacy project will collect material and the Municipal Library will also visit the Open Air Gallery. Non-Governmental Organisations will sell food, while other actions will also be available to the public, such as wine tasting and face painting for children.
