Mozart Requiem
Maestro Yiannis Hadjiloizou returns to Markideion Theatre in Pafos for one more take on the world’s ever favourite mass, the Mozart Requiem. It was with the same work back in 2012 that Maestro Hadjiloizou had the Orphean Singers Cyprus experience their first concert with an orchestra, at a full house and a superb performance at The Annabelle, with Soprano Irina Zeniou, Mezzo Ellie Aloneftou, Tenor Antonios Koutroupis, and Baritone Andreas Iacovides. The Cyprus Philharmonic Orchestra, an establishment of the conductor himself, was again onstage.
Since then, Maestro Hadjiloizou has led the Orpheans to great performances and international heights. Fauré Requiem in 2011 at Ledra Palace Hotel, Saint-Saëns Oratorio de Noêl at Markideion, Brahms Ein Deutsches Requiem in 2013 at Melina Mercouri Hall in Nicosia, Fauré Requiem with the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra at Strovolos Theatre in 2014 followed by a phenomenal tour of Puccini’s flamboyant Messa di Gloria taking off from Markideion earlier that year, flying to Vienna’s world renowned St. Stephen’s Cathedral in 2015, further to Paris’s iconic La Madeleine and on to Basilique du Sacré Coeur in Marseille in 2016, Vivaldi Gloria and Rutter Requiem at Bellapais in 2017, and Jenkins The Peacemakers in Patras in 2018, are just some highlights of the Isle of Love’s most successful and internationally recognised musical marriage. Further, Maestro Hadjiloizou led the Cyprus Philharmonic to great international collaborations such as Beethoven's 9th Symphony for the Official Handover Ceremony of the title of the European Capital of Culture Pafos2017,
The Maestro returns to Markideion with Franz Xaver Süssmayr’s completion of Mozart’s emblematic work for a third time, with Australian-Cypriot Soprano Christiana Aloneftis, Russian Mezzo Anastasia Maximova, Palestinian-British Tenor Marwan Shamiyeh, and Cypriot Baritone Yiorgo Ioannou.
The Cyprus Philharmonic Orchestra and Maestro Hadjiloizou last starred at the Markideion at an unforgettable Beethoven 9 treat for the Official Handover Ceremony of Pafos2017 late that year with the Philharmonia Voices and soloists Annemarie Kremer, Dina Strani, Nico Darmanin, and Kyros Patsalides. The all-star Orchestra and the Conductor last met at Pattihio Theatre Limassol and Strovolos Theatre Nicosia for Sir William Walton's opera "The Bear" with Russian director Vassily Barkhatov.
The two reunite with the Orphean Singers in what promises to be yet another very special occasion, following the Orphean’s return from another show in Athens just a few days earlier. The first half of the concert will include Schubert’s "Unfinished" Symphony.
