Constantinos Yeoryiou directs and designs space, costumes and music for his new play, Migrational the Wind produced by the Theatre Group - 2015 of the Pancyprian Gymnasium in Nicosia.
The people participating in the play, both actors and viewers, are the last inhabitants of a place which rises up on a huge stony cone to heaven, surrounded by a vast, white-washed desert. On the tip of this towering rock, lies a fort and the one and only perennial tree.
On its arid slopes the inhabitants cultivate all year round, and through an exhausting process, a rare flower, planted in September and flowering in May. Between the 1st of June and the 31st of August, compelling winds raise up from all directions at sundown and dye down only at morning break, forcing inhabitants of this strange place to keep themselves locked in, awake and terrified within the fort and worn out by the following morning, they fall into a deep stupor. This is the season of the Winds, as they call it. Everything works under the regime and processes established by the Others, as they name them. Who are these inhabitants of this place, and which is this place? Which unspoken reality hides behind all this? The play takes unfolds on the last night of this regime’s hold, a night full of miracles and spells, where in response to an unexpected event, the calming practice of assembly, conversation and truthful recount, bring out overthrows.
