Mary Savva - Oliveland

Gloria Gallery presents the painting exhibition by Mary Savva entitled 'Oliveland'.

The exhibition will be opened by archaeologist Dr Christodoulos Hadjikristodoulou on Thursday, March 12 at 7.30 pm.

Speaking about the works she will present at Gloria Gallery, she says:

“Through illustrative art and painting, I explore human nature and state. My recent work explores ideas about home, culture and identity in relation to the landscape. The images come from or relate to the place I grew up in and the place I am painting today - I try to combine these two places and redefine them in a wider context. In my work the theme is disconnected from the background. It is mounted on it almost like a collage thus highlighting the physical gap between the object and a place. Some of the works depict Hellenistic sculptures that are currently placed in a different setting (museum), in a different landscape from the one in which they were made. They have been lost and displaced from their original landscape and home, so they are used as symbols for the artist himself and are almost self-portraits."

Mary Savva graduated with honors from the University of Hertfordshire where she studied Fine Arts. She then completed her postgraduate studies at Slade School of Fine Art at University College London where she received a Master of Fine Art in Painting. Ms Savva has participated in group exhibitions in London and Cheongju, South Korea while exhibiting her work in solo exhibitions in Limassol.

The exhibition opens on 12 March and will remain open until 3 April 2020.
