Some of the world’s best graffiti artists are coming to Larnaka to compete in a graffiti art project entitled ‘Larnaka Art Project, Past-Present-Future’. The Art Project is organised by the Larnaka Regional Tourism Body in cooperation with the Cyprus Tourism Organisation and the Municipality of Larnaka on the 18th and 19th of September 2010 in the Larnaka-Dekeleia road.

The aim of this innovative project is the upgrading of this area’s image with the presentation of artwork that depicts Larnaka’s rich history and culture. After their completion, the artworks shall be permanently located along the Larnaka-Dekeleia road thus transforming the area into an open-air gallery.

Leading graffiti artists from Cyprus and abroad have been selected to draw on 16 specially made hoardings measuring 3 metres in height and 4.50 metres in length. World known graffiti artist Steve Locatelli from Belgium shall be participating in this event as well as famous UK artists Rocket01 and Fauna. Top street artists from Greece such as Inva, Ser, Reb, Koff, Rasel and Cypriot artists amongst which are, Freaks, Oner, SPG, Ipoktipima, Jupiter and Elles shall all be competing in the Art Project Event.

The artists will have the chance to create their artwork portraying elements and characteristics of the natural, cultural and historical wealth and/or the prospects and potentials of the Larnaka Region and win prizes of €1000, €500 and €300. The winners will be decided once the artwork is completed and exhibited and will be determined by a 60% stake of the Evaluation Committee and 40% public vote through the Larnaka Regional Tourism Body’s website (www.larnakaregion.com). Voting through the website will be available until the 1st of November 2010.

The inaugurations of the Art Project together with an event open to the public will be held on the 19th of September 2010 at 18:00 in front of Intercollege in the Larnaka-Dekeleia Road. The event which is under the auspices of the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Mr. Antonis Paschalides includes a show by the Rebel Dancers crew, live DJ Music, voting for the best artwork and prize draws, face painting, flamingo cut-out for pictures and free drinks.

Bus transfers to and from the event area shall be offered to tourists for free on the 19th of September. Pickup from the city centre (St. Lazaros Square opposite Livadhiotis Hotel) and the Larnaka-Dekeleia Road (Golden Bay and Palm Beach Hotels) at 17:30 and 17:50 accordingly.
