Kikos Lanitis

Kikos Lanitis is planning a series of conjectural presentations with the general title «closing your eyez don’t mean u ain’t there.» in various places in Europe.

The first presentation is made out of 6 works which are 180 x 150 cm and will be hosted at Silks Gallery (Limassol) from the 7th until the 30th November 2008. The exhibitions that will follow will be complemented by new works that will be created in the process. All the exhibitions will be accompanied by a catalogue which will also be complemented each time.

Kikos Lanitis is testifying his political-social point of view through many techniques and means of expression, preserving his interest in the expressive dynamics of the colour without repeating himself.

This time around he is creating in his recognizable artistic manner, a new modern realism with a molding of various media which creates a three-dimensional surface. The variety of colour intensifies the absorption of the inlaid material and imposes multiple interpretive readings, and is in constant seeking of worshipers and not mere viewers.

Kikos writes about his artworks:
“The iconic world that surrounds us is building up ‘masks’ and absorbs us. This does not mean that we have to ‘wear’ them as something new which at the same time seems auto-maticaly valuable, value belongs to time.
The present is the present of the past. The poor are poor. The rich simply have more expensive symbols.
Symbolism is the way of ‘expression’ that is given to the icon without the intension of creating an ‘ideological identity’ for it.
Because the truth lays in its reality and not in its idealism.”

The opening will take place at 20:00. Following the opening the gallery will be hosting a reception party for its guests in ‘Brio Cafe’ next door.
