Ecological Celebration Cyprus

Cyprus : Ecological Celebration Cyprus

Τhe first large scale Ecological Celebration in Cyprus will take place on Sunday, the 11th of May 2014, from 11am in the morning until 7pm in the afternoon in Nicosia at Academy’s National Forest Park in Aglantzia (Larnacos Avenue).

The goal of the Celebration is to present local organic and natural products, as well as local environmental initiatives and for the chance to share awareness and dialogue on crucial environmental issues, with our main goal on the promotion of cooperation and solidarity, and the exchange of ideas and education.

At the Ecological Celebration local producers will participate with naturally grown quality vegetables and legumes (without chemicals and fertilizers), naturally prepared health products made with respect towards nature (no animal testing), ecological products (cleaning products-cosmetics) as well as handcrafters.

Organisations and groups that are active in promoting ecological matters such as natural cultivations and organic growers; creators of urban vegetable gardens; recycling initiatives; environmental educational programs; as well as awareness on health issues and workshops will also take part. Visitors will have the chance to discuss and receive all the information they want about these initiatives.

During the day several production workshops will take place, a cultural program will be organised, a kid’s corner with activities related to ecological matters as well as presentations in which specialists will briefly present their topic, followed by dialogue and exchange of views with the attendants.

The presentations that will take place are:
Ex situ conservation of seeds - The Local Gene Bank
Aggelos Kiratzis – Agricultural Research Officer
Natural Health – Healing with Natural Therapies Without Chemical Medicines
Dr Giorgos Katsosis – Homeopathic Physician and Consultant of Cellular Medicine
Composting – How to turn our organic waste at home to a reach mold
Michalis Loizides, Chemical Environmental Engineer, Director of Akti Studies and Research Centre
Composting with the technology of Active Microorganisms
Traditional Seeds – How to keep and reserve our old seeds
Ellovos and Kyprion Sporoi
Degrowth and Collectiveness
Utopia Collectiva, Ellovos and Kyprion Sporoi

This Ecological Celebration is organised by our groups in cooperation with other organizations on the basis of self-organisation, volunteer work and collectiveness. The income from the event will be used to cover all the expenses and to create a fund to further develop this initiative towards a healthier collective future for all.

We hope to establish the Ecological Celebration as a yearly happening, organising it every year in a different city of Cyprus and in the long run to organise local Ecological Celebrations in all the cities simultaneously.

Finally, through this Celebration we support the direct relationship between producer and consumer; natural quality food for all; products sourced locally; affordable and fair prices; processing by traditional methods; our reconnection with nature and our distancing from industrialization and the illogical commercialization of everything; and a move towards the collective and cooperation.

Coordinated by the groups Amarantos, Anakyklos Perivallontiki, Ellovos and Kyprion Sporoi, Movement of Life Cyprus and Utopia Collectiva, with the support of Aglantzia Municipality, the Department of Forests and “To Koukounari” coffee shop.
