Dimitra Bista - Random Walk

Cyprus : Dimitra Bista - Random Walk

Gallery PENINDAPLINENA is pleased to announce the first solo exhibition by Dimitra Bista entitled Random Walk. The exhibition includes older and more recent works of the artist who lives and works in Athens. With a series of drawings older and new in handmade paper and transparencies on a large and smaller scale the artist explores structures of the natural world in terms of order - disorder, randomness - necessity, micro - macro structure and which represent her research of the last three years.

Having as her fundamental morphological element line and the point which she interprets as the trace of a pro - existing energy that refers to the action of movement the gesture of the imprint , D. Bista seeks to create wider morphologies detected in space , earth , nature , society . Combining elements of physical action and automatism , she affects crucially on her works which are full of complexity, detail and a sense of flowing . Accomplishing several degrees of density and tension, full and empty , she creates fields , grids and complex impressions conveying a hyper - secular conception.

The drawings are spread out and function totally as a field that radiates and develops to every direction. The viewer "wanders" around the drawings exploring labyrinths of limited or extended virtual lands in time and memory. A glut of information with endless constant lines and chains that fork in her effort to construct and define, is an integral part of her work. The delicacy and complexity of her drawings is perceived only at close range as at a distance the works remain intangible and enigmatic. Through a complex and time consuming procedure implied to an extremely complex reality, she develops a function in which the viewer explores the surface of her works as deeply as their content.

The title of the exhibition is open and symbolic. Random Walk is the fundamental model for the registration of stochastic activities, activities which cannot be predicted and in which luck as a factor is important . Due to the singularity of the structure of her drawings, she brings up the complexity of our existence and the perception of an obscured and undefined reality. Her drawings like a kind of abstract diagrams attempt to stimulate allusions for what can not be rendered with notions . Leading viewers into another level of consciousness, she invites them to draw their own conclusions.
