Cyprus : A Crush on German Short Films

ARTos Foundation in collaboration with the Goethe-Institut Cyprus present “A Crush on German Short Films”. On Tuesday, 24 June 2014 at 21:00, join us in an open-air screening of an unusual Short Film program from Germany and enjoy the view of Nicosia’s night-time skyline underneath the Summer moon. Nine excellent short films have been selected, from more than 470 German short film entries at the Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival, in January 2014; Ranging from bizarre and mystical to colourful and hilarious stories.

The following films will be screened:

WIND
Robert Löbel | Germany 2013 |4’
The daily life of people living in a windy area who seem helplessly exposed to the weather. However, the inhabitants have learned to deal with their difficult living conditions.

REMAINS QUIET
Stefan Kriekhaus | Germany, France 2013 |15’
An afternoon at the edge of a large film set somewhere out in the sticks in rural France. A trainee takes up his position. He is responsible for blocking off the street while filming is in process. His only connection to the set is via walkie-talkie. He begins to get bored…

RHINO FULL THROTTLE
Erik Schmitt | Germany 2013|15’
Bruno is making his way through the city searching for its soul. Driven by curiosity, his challenging imagination and his wild reflection on reality, he is lifting the old dusty curtain on the city‘s crusted perception. Bruno is collecting patterns, spaces and surfaces, showing us the city as we have never seen it before.

THIEVES
Lauro Cress | Germany 2013 |7’
The brothers Benny and Franz steal jeans in shopping centres and boutiques. Their routine involves a scam in which the younger Benny plays the ungrateful role of the decoy. When they encounter an overstrung shop assistant, Franz realizes that Benny will not accept being pushed around any longer.

ECHO
Merlin Flügel | Germany 2012 |5’
The sunken homeland, visiting a strange place and the certainty that we are not alone. The rhythm of one’s origins and the identity of the surroundings. ECHO is about complicated relationships and a departure to new shores.

FORST
Ulu Braun | Germany 2013 |11’
FORST spans an arc from a primeval forest saturated in mysticism to the mediatized nature theme park. Athletes pave their way through the thicket of the forest. Hikers and nature lovers indulge in their bodies, while children are under the magic spell of mythical creatures.

SUNNY
Barbara Ott | Germany 2013 |30’
19-year-old Hajo desperately struggles to find work and be a father for his baby son at the same time.

VELO MYSTERY
Jörn Staeger | Germany 2013 |7’
An experimental short film poem about the symbiotic relationship between a man and a bicycle. The spectator experiences three states: The bicycle as a spaceship, as a body machine and as a time machine.
