Alexandros Grant Michaelides Sculpture & Drawing exhibition

Alexandros Grant Michaelides exhibition of sculpture and drawings will open at Gloria Gallery on Tuesday 26th February at 7.30 p.m. Alexandros Grant Michaelides was born in Oxford in 1983 and was raised in Cyprus. He studied Fine Art first at Camberwell College of Arts (2004-2005) and then at Middlesex University (2005-2008). He obtained his Master’s degree, with a specialization in oil painting from Canterbury Christ Church University (2011-2012). He also received his PGCEi teaching certificate from the University of Nottingham in 2017. He currently resides in Nicosia, where he works as an artist and as an art teacher. He has participated in group exhibitions in Cyprus, the UK and Finland, and has held a number of solo exhibitions in Cyprus.

Alexandros Michaelides’ new cycle of work seeks to draw the viewer in as a participant with the artist in the creative process. Through his sculptural reliefs and drawings, the artist highlights the importance of academic measurement in his work, thereby providing the viewer with some insight into the mind of the artist. The beauty of constructional lines which are used for the creation of still lifes in three dimensions is celebrated in his work. Through sculptural structures, such as horizontal, vertical and diagonal lines used to create spatial reference points, he visually explains the process of creating observational work such as a still life. These somewhat minimal still-life compositions are the skeletal measuring reference points which become the basis of this series of the artist’s work.

The exhibition opens on the 26th of February at 19:30 and will remain open until March 12th 2019.
