From Adolescence to Adulthood

‘From Adolescence to Adulthood; Normality and Psychopathology’, is the theme of the International Conference in Psychiatry which will take place in Larnaca between 9-12 September, 2010. Distinguished speakers from over 15 countries will participate in this event which is organized by the Cyprus Psychiatric Association in collaboration with the World Psychiatric Association (WPA), the Greek Child Psychiatry Association, the Greek Psychiatry Association and the European Child and Adolescent Association. The venue of the conference is the Palm Beach Hotel, located along the Larnaca coast.

Evidently, development is a lifelong affair which does not stop at the arrival of adulthood. Both, continuities and discontinuities of psychiatric disorders, from childhood and adolescence to adulthood, offer a broad field for investigation into Child and Adult Psychiatry while early onset and prodromal phases of psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia, raise significant questions. These very conditions, warrant the collaboration between Child and Adult Psychiatrists, and this is the ultimate objective of this International Conference; to offer a productive dialogue and exchange of knowledge and expertise between the two groups.

The Conference will feature a series of topics such as depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, psychoses, personality disorders, psychotherapeutic interventions, Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), autistic disorders, eating disorders, drug addiction. Many topics will be presented in the form of lectures or round table discussions, while others in the form of seminars or workshops. The structure of this conference contributes to the continuing education not only of psychiatrists and psychologists, but also of nurses, ergotherapists and social workers. It also provides a golden opportunity for trainees, students, parents, relatives and mental health volunteers, to get in touch with this scientific field, at a low participant cost (€80).
