A Slight Risk

"A Slight Risk" is a contemporary theatre play written in 2009 having as its starting point George Seferis’ poem "At the outskirts of Kerynia - Sketch for an Idyll" and the infamous Orams case.

The action takes place in a village in Kerynia in 2004 and bursts open the clichés of a moneyed middle-aged ex-pat couple who moved to a villa in Cyprus to spend the rest of their lives in a place by the sea and under the sun.

The Plot
The couple buys a plot in the northern part of the island and builds a villa there, despite their lawyer’s initial warning for the "slight risk" that such a move might entail. Nevertheless, the political developments in the island in 2004 threaten not only the status of their property but also the fragile foundations on which their marriage rests.

"A Slight Risk" unravels the exploitative relationships and the politics hiding in the brick and mortar of a house in the northern part of Cyprus forcing not only a change of address, but a crumbling demolition of desires and expectations. And whereas the immediate cracks are caused by dated but not abandoned Foreign Office diplomacy, human rights and Cyprus-problem politics, the echoes of "A Slight Risk" register the contemporary tremors of the revenging financial disasters.

"A Slight Risk" is a Fresh Target Theatre Ensemble production involving theatre artists from Cyprus, the United Kingdom and Greece.
