Israel Open Night
A unique opportunity to experience Israeli culture in the heart of Nicosia! On Saturday, 18th of May 2013, afternoon till late night, at the New Theatre Building of THOC, an exclusive series of cultural events and artistic happenings will take place. The Cypriot audience will experience some of Israel’s best works of art, including theatre, children’s puppet show, films and a photograph exhibition.
18:30 - Celebration, a fantastic puppet show for children. Humor, music, black theater and the usual puppets become the ingredients of this show, which people of all ages can enjoy. Βy the Galilee Multicultural Theatre, pantomime, no words.
20.00/ 22:30 - Mein Jerusalem, theatre performance in English. The play follows the professional and personal highlights of a fictional German photographer, Sabina Sauber, on her journey towards finding a sense of belonging, following her desire to experience the "here and now".
20:30 - Footnote, an Israeli drama film which revolves around the troubled relationship between a father and son who teach the Talmud (= Jewish religious texts). The film was nominated for an Academy Award in the category of Best Foreign Film in 2012. Film by Joseph Cedar (2011, 103’), with Greek subtitles.
22:30 - Rabies, Israel's first-ever horror flick. Strange things are happening to a handful of people lost in the woods in this offbeat horror film, which Won Critic's Award in Fantasporto FF 2011. Film by Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado (2010, 90’), with English subtitles.
13- 26/05/2013- From the Beginning, Photograph exhibition by Shai Ginott. Ginott, a biologist by profession started her career as the first photographer of the National Parks Authority. She published many photography books, combining poetry anthologies, and in 1993 was awarded the Gold Prize at the Jerusalem International Book Fair for her bestselling book, “Touching the Light” (1992). All the photographs shown in this exhibition have been taken in Israel, but portray imaginary landscapes, as they are composed of two photos superimposed on one another, echoing extracts from the Bible.
