Flying Away Art Music and Dance Festival

Flying Away proudly presents, on the 17th and 18th of December at the Cyprus State Fair (Hall 6) in Nicosia, a Christmas special, “The Abstract Festival.”

Join us with your friends and families for the first and massive Christmas event of the year.

Over 85 exhibitors will display their different art crafts, from paintings, photography, illustration, fashion, jewellery, including sculpture and much more.

8 of the best local DJ's and two live bands will be joining us to present their art skills through music on the decks during the 2-day event.

A Live Art Performance (Physical Theatre).
A presentation where the artist uses paint on a large surface, with the movement of her body, to create an abstract concept. After the festival the final piece will be cut up and separated into smaller unique art displays, in which the outcome will be an exhibition that shall be held to sell these works. The money from the exhibition will go towards charity.

Pablo Picasso once said, “There is no abstract art. You must always start with something. Afterward you can remove all traces of reality.” Which is how we came to name our sixth festival, “The Abstract Festival.”

As we were setting up for our previous festival at Orfeas, at some point we looked up and saw masses of clouds coming our way. We tried to ignore them, and continue at the pace we were at, but we couldn’t help looking up thinking, “please don’t rain, just please don’t rain.” It was déjà vu all over again, and we thought the damage would have been the same as the festival at Tivoli last May. Just when the thought came to mind, that’s when we felt our first raindrop, and our hearts just stopped. People rushed up to us, asking what they should do, others continued setting up, others stopped, and for that moment, not one word was heard, because that exact feeling was one of the most abstract feelings one could ever feel.

A month later, when thinking of that day, that specific moment, when we thought that just for a split second, it could all be destroyed by something so simple like the rain, that’s when we put a name to the feeling, and our concept for, “The Abstract festival,” evolved from there on out. A feeling can be perceived and interpreted in so many different ways, and we decided to perceive that feeling we got in our own way, by putting color to it. Our raindrops became yellow, orange and red, which are the colors of the sun and of Flying Away and with the wind on that day, the movement of rain, our abstract idea emerged, and we put a picture to the name.
Abstract art uses a visual language of form, color and line to create a composition, which may exist with a degree of independence from visual references in the world. So when combining our colors to the raindrops, we transformed something real, into something that was a moment for Flying Away, and one of our many representations.

With the bright colors we used, we also want to enhance the upcoming Christmas spirit, and make this Christmas a very colorful one, in an Abstract way.
