Despina Nicolaides - Simple acts of daily life
Gloria Gallery presents the first solo painting exhibition of Despina Nicolaides. The exhibition will open on Tuesday February 7, 2017 at 7.30 pm.
The artwork presented in this exhibition is mainly a study of the human form and expression through movement of people while performing ordinary daily acts. Different media are used such as oils watercolours ink and charcoal on canvas and different types of paper.
Despina Nicolaides was born and grew up in Famagusta. In 1974 due to the Turkish invasion the family had to abandon their home and finally ended up in Nicosia. She graduated from the English School in Nicosia and then studied “Design and Jewellery Making” at Parsons School of design in New York where she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA). She taught art and jewellery making at the technical schools of Larnaca and Nicosia.
The exhibition will open on the 7th of February and will remain open until the 24th of February 2017.
