Cyprus : Woodwind World (Winter Music Festival)

The Paphos Kidney Association and Paphos Music Lovers present the charity event “Winter Music Festival” in Paphos, with three recitals at Technopolis 20 and one at Agia Kyriaki Church, St. Paul's Pillar. All proceeds will be given for the purchase of a new dialysis machine for the Renal Unit at Paphos General Hospital.

Saturday, 25th of November, 8pm, Technopolis 20, ‘WOODWIND WORLD’
The last concert at Technopolis 20 has the title “Woodwind world” concert, where George Georgiou (clarinet), Virginie Bove (flute) and Gergana Georgieva (piano) will perform works by Saint-Saëns, Debussy and Faure.

George Georgiou (clarinet) enjoys a career as a Classical and contemporary clarinetist. He has appeared in many solo concerts and recitals in Europe, Middle East and USA. He is a member of the Lyrical Noise Ensemble, Evohe Wind Quintet, Chronos Contemporary Music Ensemble, as well as musician in Residence at the Avaton Contemporary Music Festival in Cyprus. He holds the position of clarinet professor at the University of Nicosia. He is the artistic director of music at the Museum Concert Series and the general director of the Culture Tones organization, a not-for-profit cultural organization, based in Cyprus. His busy profile has gained him international recognition and he has become a Fratelli Patricola clarinet artist, as well as a Silverstein Ligature artist and a Marca Reeds artist. He records for Hook Records.

Virginie Bove (flute) was born in 1977 in Paris. Her interest and love for music started at an early age and led her to begin studying the flute at eleven years old. She had the opportunity to study with some brilliant flutists in France and abroad, including M. Beaucoudray, M. Debost, M. Dufour, C. Lefèbvre, P. Dumail, P. Bernold and G. Alirol. Virginie completed her studies attaining first prizes from the Conservatoire of Paris and of Saint-Maur and won in parallel several national competitions. In 1999, she had her debut as a soloist by performing Lipkin’s Flute Concerto, European Premiere. Between 1995 and 2000, she was the Principal Flutist of Paris Sorbonne Symphony Orchestra under the direction of J. Grimbert and performed in many venues in Europe and in United States of America. By 2000, Virginie Bove established herself as a freelance Flute and Piccolo player, working with remarkable conductors. Since 2005, she is the Sub-Principal Flute player in the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra. Chamber music always occupied a significant part of her activities; she performed and recorded world premiere compositions especially made for her. She is the founder of the Evohe Wind Quintet and has been collaborating with other musicians regularly.

Gergana Georgieva (piano) was born in the city of Burgas in Bulgaria. At the age of six she took piano lessons and music theory with Isidora Silvestrova and at the age of ten, she was accepted at the Pancho Vladigerov music school in Burgas. During her studies, she was awarded at various seminars, concerts and competitions, including the 16th Competition for performance of Bulgarian professional music "Varban Varbanov" where she won 1st prise. In 2002 she performed Prokofiev’s 1st concert for piano and orchestra, accompanied by Burgas Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Ivan Kojuharov. She continued her studies at the National Music Academy of Sofia “Pancho Vladigerov”, attending piano classes with Stella Dimitrova – Maistorova and Ilia Chernaev. During her studies in the Academy, she participated in concerts, performing Mozart, Beethoven and Schumann concertos, accompanied by Sofia’s Academic Symphony Orchestra. She participated in national competitions of Chamber Music with a piano trio, winning 2nd prize for performing a Bulgarian music piece and 1st prize for performing Austrian music pieces. She participated in the Contemporary Music Festival “Pianissimo”, where she performed preludes and fugues by Shostakovich and Shchedrin. Gergana has attended various master classes with distinguished pianists, such as Paolo Police, Cyprien Katsaris etc. Since 2008 she has lived and worked in Cyprus, where she continues to participate in concerts and presentations, in collaboration with Cypriot and foreign artists, as well as with the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra.
