The Tin Soldier

Cyprus : The Tin Soldier

The classic fairytale by Hans Christian Andersen comes to life on the stage of Dentro Theatre, in a performance full of music, dance and colors. This touching story deals with the power of love and sacrifice and takes new dimensions in our musical theatrical adaption, which refers to the important issues of the problematic times live in. Some of the issues this musical deals with are bullying, acceptance of diversity, self-sacrifice and love.

The thirteen actors onstage embody the roles while dancing, playing musical instruments and singing live! Through our musical approach, we have tried to create a lesson on the importance of kindness and teamwork. Also, we attempt to demonstrate the importance music in our lives. During the performance the children will listen to various musical styles, ranging from pop to jazz! Our goal is not only to entertain but also educate our young friends.

Summary:
In an old toy store, sometime in the past, a Craftsman melts a metal spoon and makes twelve soldiers in order to sell them. The material is not enough to finish the last soldier, so it ends up having only one leg. The Craftsman feels bad that the toy soldier remains unfinished and decides to give it a huge heart instead; he decides to keep it in his toy store! He names him Molyvenios. In the toy store lives a group of old toys: a Ballerina, a Doll, three Porcelain Dolls, a little Drummer Boy, a Bear, a Cowboy and a Sailor, who become friends with Molyvenios and welcome him in their group. But in the toy store there is a “bad” toy, Jack-in-the-Box, who bullies the other toys and doesn’t allow them to sing. One day Jack gives such a big scare to the Ballerina that she hides herself in her music box and won’t come out anymore. Molyvenios, through various adventures, tries return to the toy store and turn Jack into a good toy; he wants to teach him how to love! Will Molynevios find a way to bring peace in the toy store?
