Cyprus : Guitar Recital with Dimitris Regginos

The Cypriot guitarist Dimitris Regginos will perform at Technopolis 20, on Friday, 8th of July at 8pm. The audience will have the opportunity to listen works by Cypriot Composers by an international performer that has been awarded several international prizes.

The recital will take place at the “Studio” of Technopolis 20, a former TV studio that for the first time will be used for a music concert.

A few words about the artist
Dimitris Regginos has had an active international career since 1996 having performed in Cyprus, Greece, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania, Estonia, Ireland, Spain, France and Japan. He is the first prize winner of the prestigious International Guitar Competitions of Volos, Greece (1990), Kutna Hora, Czech Republic (1996) and Tokyo, Japan (1997). He also won 2nd prize in Tokyo, Japan (1996), and 3rd prizes in Krakow, Poland (1991) and “A. Augustine memorial” Bath, UK (1997).

Mr. Regginos is frequently invited to perform and give masterclasses in International Guitar Festivals, among others in Volos, Veroia, Belgrade, Moscow, Yekaterinburg, Sofia, Plovdiv, Vilnius, Kiev, Tokyo and Osaka. He has appeared as a soloist with orchestras such as the Russia State Academic Chamber Orchestra, Divertissement Chamber Orchestra, Ural Symphony Orchestra, Cyprus Symphony Orchestra, Chamber-Symphonic Orchestra of the Ukranian Armed Forces.

His has a particularly wide-ranging solo and concert repertoire from Dowland and J.S. Bach to Leo Brower, chamber music with guitar and contemporary composers. He has premiered on numerous occasions works by composers such as Gregory Nemirovsky, Faidros Kavallaris, Nicos Troullos, Constantin Papageorgio, Marios-Elia Ioannou and Kemal Belevi. He has released four CD recordings: “Chamber music with guitar” – works by Cypriot composer Kemal Belevi, “Recital” – works for solo guitar, “Kypriaka Erotika” – works for solo guitar by Cypriot composer Faidros Kavallaris and “Tradition and Music” with violinist Menelaos Menelaou.

Dimitris Regginos began guitar studies under Christos Savvopoulos at the age of 14 and, within three years, he obtained the Licentiate of the ABRSM. He continued his music studies at the Gnessin’s Russian Academy of Music, Moscow under Alexander Frauchi graduating in 1994 with a Master of Fine Arts. During his studies he attended masterclasses by prominent guitarists such as H. Kappel, G. Sarkozy, Costas Kotsiolis, R. Aussel, Evangelos Assimakopoulos, Tadashi Sasaki, Leo Brower and others.

Dimitris is committed to the development of classical guitar in Cyprus. Since 2001, being the President of the European Guitar Teachers Association, he has established the annual EGTA-Cyprus International Guitar Festival and Competition for Young Guitarists. He was also the Artistic Director of the 1st Paphos International Guitar Festival (1999) and the 1st Cyprus International Guitar Festival (2000).

At the same time, Mr. Regginos is music teacher in secondary education public schools since 2001, and guitar pedagogue at the Music School of Nicosia and ARTE Music Academy in Nicosia. He is also the founder of the Cyprus Federation of Private Music Teachers.
